I Am Going To Lose It!

Many people with physical disabilities struggle with their weight. I am no exception. I have used every excuse in the book when it comes to not exercising or eating right. “I’m tired,” “I ache,” “Four pieces of pizza isn’t that much.” These excuses have led me to become very lazy.

I am not able to walk long distances, and I can’t stand for very long without having to hold on to or lean on something. I use a wheelchair for distances. Recently, I took notice of how winded, tired and sore I have become just from doing simple tasks. I came to the conclusion that this is from not taking care of myself. So, I made up my mind, to get off my butt and do something about it.
Years ago, I felt the same way I do now, and I decided to join Weight Watchers. It worked before, but would it work again? I decided to give it another shot. I joined Weight Watchers.

At the meeting yesterday, they talked about taking care of yourself in every way, not just physically.  Eating sensibly and exercising are part of it, yes, but you also have to take time for yourself in other ways. Take time to do something that you enjoy, whether it be reading a book, going for a walk or watching a movie. All this can help you maintain a healthy balance in your life, but let's face it, sometimes, it aint happenin! We all have busy lives, or sometimes we don't feel like it, or the disabilities sometimes that gets in the way. We've all been there at one time or another.

Taking all this into account, I am going to try to do this. I know it won’t be easy. I know I will not accomplish all of this at once. I didn’t get this way over night and I am not going to fix it overnight. It is going to take time. I am going to put the recommendation in to practice as best as I can, and see what happens. Who’s with me? I would love to read your feedback!

  1. We all start our journey with a single step-for you, Weight Watchers and exercise, for me it required a major abdominal surgery I can't pretend didnt happe in. One step, one healthy choice, one ounce of creativity and pour on a shaker of faith and hope. You will make it because you realiize that workis just that-work. Not a cake walk. Much luck, Jim, and mountains of prosperity to come your way.

  3. Here! Here! I concur. And i encourage you in your journey to renewed energy and feeling better. This is why i get outside on the weekends with my camera and explore. I know it is not the most strenous of activities but it is something that gets me out and i can do all day if so choose. I too have found myself gaining weight through inactivity at work and just general lazing around so i have taken steps to adjust my diet and mobility options. And like you said the weight gain didn't happen overnight nor with the weight loss. As long as focus and desire remain, anything can be achieved.
Take care and best of luck!

  4. Thanks for the encouragement, Scott. I don't think it matters how strenuous the activity is, as long as you are moving in some way or another, it is better than nothing at all. Even those in wheelchairs can use dumbells or do any type of upper body exercise that gets their heart rate up. Keep it up! I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful pictures!

  5. Great decision James. I'm also working on getting healthy. I even joined a company that promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight (plexus worldwide) and began taking the supplements. It's just an easy drink you mix in water and a few pills before bed and I've been having good results so far. I'm also working on getting more active day by day and I am partially following weight watchers unofficially. My boyfriend's mother does it and she kind of keeps an eye on us. I think with the new system focusing so much on sugar I've been doing good because Plexus Slim helps to level blood sugar and helps to cut out cravings for sugar which keeps my points down and helps with my self control and impulses.

  6. That is great Sarah Anne. I am glad you are also on the road to getting healthy. I am sure with all you are doing you must be feeling better. I know I do. Thanks for your comment and keep up the good work.

  7. Go for it. The only way I can lose weight is by fasting. I have NO exercise capacity at all, and I'm hungry all the time - and fight it.

My body can't self-regulate appetite and weight management unless it gets a minimum of regular exercise - which I can't do.

So I slowly put on weight - then take it off.

Unhealthy? Fix me - and I'll be delighted to exercise. Meanwhile, this is the only thing that works for me.
